I came into nursing as a second career after learning I have a passion for providing care to others. Psychiatry quickly became an area of interest to me as I found myself treating many mental health issues across my various roles as a registered nurse. Helping clients work through their issues and celebrate both their highs and lows is incredibly rewarding to me. I find joy in watching my clients improve over time, witnessing the positive impact of my care on both their health and well-being.
My approach to care is open, nonjudgmental, and collaborative. I make use of motivational interviewing techniques and dialogue during my sessions mixed with aspects of both solution focused brief therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy. I strongly believe in a holistic approach to treatment; addressing issues related to clients’ physical, mental, spiritual, and social needs.
I treat acute and chronic mental health issues across the lifespan, specializing in treatment of problems related to depression, mood, psychosis, trauma, substance use, and anxiety. My aim for treatment is to help clients gain greater insight and knowledge into their issues while working towards mutually established goals.
I completed my Doctorate of Nursing Practice from the University of Illinois at Chicago and hold national board certifications as both a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner and as a nurse executive. Some of my other interests outside of practice include teaching, research, policy reform, and patient advocacy.
