My therapy is influenced by my belief that there is a universal human experience yet each person’s experience is uniquely their own. I love the unfolding nature of the therapeutic process and actively come alongside people as they discover themselves and journey toward a state of greater well-being – mentally, emotionally, physically and spiritually. I strive to create a safe and accepting space for each person; and I believe discovering strengths and resiliencies is an important part of the therapeutic process.
I work with women and men aged 17 through all adult life stages, individually or in groups. As a clinical psychologist, I treat many types of mental health issues such as anxiety, mood disorders, stress, self-concept, relationship issues and problem behaviors. However, my specific areas of specialty include trauma/complex trauma; grief and loss; burnout & compassion fatigue; divorce recovery; women’s issues; life transitions and both healthy and toxic spirituality. I also am available to conduct full psychological assessments which can help get a more comprehensive view when it’s not entirely clear what the true underlying issue might be.
My style is collaborative, we work together toward the goals that are important to you. I practice predominantly from a contemporary Psychodynamic & Relational lens, but frequently draw from other theories as may be helpful for or preferred by each client. For example, I find there are many practical exercises from Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Narrative Therapy that are very useful for reducing symptoms, promoting wellness and facilitating healthy self-concept for most people. Such techniques can be incorporated easily into the deeper work of uncovering the source of what may be fueling such symptoms and then addressing these issues at the core.
I came into the field of psychology as a mid-life career change after a series of personal life transitions and have finally found my true calling in this work. Following a career buffet in fashion sales, the special effects film industry and glass art gallery management, I completed both a terminal Master’s degree (M.A.) and Doctor of Psychology (Psy.D) degree at Wheaton College in Wheaton, IL. I became an Illinois Certified Domestic Violence Professional (ICDVP) in 2008 and have also completed the Illinois 40-hour Sexual Assault Crisis Intervention Training. I love what I do and I believe in the healing and transformative power of therapy.
