Board-Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
Joseph Malcolm is a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner who is passionate about helping children, adolescents, and families feel heard, understood, and supported throughout their mental health journey.
Joseph understands that reaching out for mental health care-especially for your child-can sometimes feel overwhelming. His goal is to create a welcoming, judgment-free environment where young people and their families feel comfortable asking questions, sharing concerns, and being active participants in their care.
Throughout his career, Joseph has worked with individuals from many different backgrounds and across the lifespan in both inpatient and outpatient settings. He has experience treating a variety of mental health and behavioral concerns, including ADHD, anxiety, depression, mood disorders, trauma-related symptoms, and behavioral challenges.
Joseph provides comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and medication management, taking the time to understand not only a patient's symptoms, but also the person behind them. He believes that medication can be an important part of treatment, but it is only one piece of the bigger picture. His approach focuses on working collaboratively with children, adolescents, parents, caregivers, therapists, schools, and other members of the treatment team to develop a plan that supports the whole person.
Before becoming a psychiatric mental health provider, Joseph proudly served for more than 25 years in the United States Army and United States Air Force. During his military career, he served in several leadership and healthcare roles, including as an Air Force Flight Nurse, Officer in Charge of a medical clinic, and Executive Officer for a Community Based Warrior Transition Unit, where he helped care for and support service members returning home from deployment. Those experiences helped shape the provider Joseph is today—someone who values service, compassion, resilience, and meeting people where they are.
Joseph is especially passionate about breaking down the stigma surrounding mental health. He wants children and families to understand that asking for help is okay, talking about mental health is important, and no one should feel ashamed for needing support.
At Flourishing Lives Counseling Center, Joseph provides psychiatric evaluation and medication management services for children and adolescents. His goal is to build genuine relationships with the young people and families he serves while helping each patient move toward greater emotional wellness, confidence, and stability.
“Every child deserves to feel heard, every family deserves support, and mental health care should always begin with compassion.”
