Dr. Katharine “Kate” Pace is a board-certified Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner dedicated to providing inclusive, compassionate, and evidence-based mental health care that honors the whole person. She believes healing happens through connection, safety, and feeling truly seen-and she approaches every therapeutic relationship with warmth, respect, and genuine curiosity.
Kate earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice from the University of Iowa, where she developed advanced clinical training in diagnostic assessment, psychopharmacology, psychotherapy, group facilitation, and trauma-informed care. With more than a decade of experience spanning emergency nursing, mental health care, group therapy, and education, she brings a steady, grounded presence and a deeply patient-centered approach to her work.
Her clinical practice is rooted in collaboration and individualized care, integrating evidence-based medication management with psychotherapy and holistic strategies tailored to each person’s unique needs. Kate specializes in supporting individuals navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, identity exploration, ADHD, and major life transitions. She is especially passionate about helping people reconnect with their strengths, resilience, and sense of possibility-even during life’s most challenging moments.
A proud member of the LGBTQIA+ community, Kate is deeply committed to creating affirming and inclusive care environments where identity is honored and diversity is celebrated. Her work is shaped by a strong commitment to cultural humility and trauma-informed practice, informed in part by her clinical experience working on the Pine Ridge Reservation with the Lakota Sioux. This experience strengthened her understanding of intergenerational trauma, resilience, and the importance of honoring each person’s lived experience within their cultural and community context.
Beyond clinical practice, Kate has been an influential leader in healthcare advocacy and policy. She previously served as Director of Public Policy for the Iowa Nurses Association, where she led statewide initiatives to strengthen the nursing workforce, expand access to mental health care, and advance equity within healthcare systems. Her work includes legislative drafting, national presentations, and sustained advocacy to improve care not just for individuals, but for communities as a whole.
